●研究課題＝エアロスミス日本最初のシングル盤

    ★チェックポイント
    1．エアロスミスの日本で最初のシングル。
    2．サードアルバム「Toys In The Attic」からの第１弾シングル。アメリカではＢ面の「Sweet Emotion」がシングルカットされたが、「Toys In The Attic」は日本独自の選曲（Toysは、アメリカでは「You See Me Cring」のＢ面としてシングル発売）。
    3．アメリカでの「Sweet Emotion」はシングルバージョンだが、ここに入ってるのはアルバム・バージョン。
    ●エアロスミスの日本デビューのきっかけを作ったのは、当時のＣＢＳソニーのディレクター・野中氏じゃ。先輩ディレクターが「売れない」と日本発売を見送ったレコードの中に、エアロのファーストがあった。彼がそれを発掘して、発売のために正式に調べたら、もうアメリカでは２枚目が出ていた。「どうせなら新しいほうがいいだろう」と、セカンド「飛べ！エアロスミス」から出したわけじゃ。
    ●そのセカンドが日本で出るとほぼ同時に、本国アメリカでは３枚目「闇夜のヘヴィ・ロック」がリリース。こういう事情で日本盤ライナーには「ニューアルバム７月、ファーストアルバム10月発売」と発売予定が予定が書いてある。つまり
    日本では約半年の間に、２−３−１の順番で３枚が連続発売されたわけじゃ。
    ●どの曲をシングルに選ぶかも、当時は担当ディレクターの仕事じゃ。本国とは異なる「闇夜のヘヴィ・ロック」が選ばれ、アメリカのＡ面「Sweet Emotion」が日本のＢ面となった。なおアルバムのテープからシングルを切っているので、本来エディット・バージョンの「Sweet Emotion」が、アルバム・バージョンになっておる。
    ●シングルのエディット・バージョンは、イントロを切ってドラム＆コーラスから始まる。このテイクは「Greatest Hits」に入っておるので、興味がある人は聴き比べてみるとよいじゃろう。
    ●この短い「Sweet Emotion」のプロモーション・フイルムも作られて、ＴＶでも放送されたぞ。演奏が完全な口パクであったが。
    ★中古盤事情＝全然ヒットしなかったので比較的見つけにくい。傷だらけの盤質Ｃで2800〜3800円の高値をつけるピンポコな店もある。そういう店では「見学」に徹することじゃ。ワシはそういう悪質盤はひたすら無視しながら、昨年1690円でＢ＋盤を発掘に成功しておる。





★キャッチ・コピー
時代は変わった！　全米をヘビー・ロックの嵐に巻き込むホットな
ニュー・パワー・エアロスミスこそ、クイーンに対するアメリカの解答だ！
1975年当時の日本では「元気な、新しいバンド」の代名詞が、イギリスのクイーンだったわけじゃな。
10万枚売れれば大ヒットの当時の洋楽市場で、クイーンは３枚目の「シアー・ハートアタック」で
ビッグネーム並の売れ行きを示していたのだ。
そのクイーンをを引き合いに出してきたのは、なかなか懸命な選択じゃと思う。
ほんとあのころは、元気なニュー・カマーが少なかったのじゃよ。みなニュー・ヒーローに飢えていた。
この「ヘビー・ロック」という言葉自体、従来のイギリスのハード・ロックとは違うという、
野中ディレクター発案の造語であったらしい（海外での用法とは異なる）。

●研究課題＝歴史から消されたバージョンを考える

    ★チェックポイント
    1．1973年初回発売全米59位、1976年再リリース全米６位。
    2．日本盤スリーブの「シングル・テイク（ＬＰとは違います）」の謎。
    3．いまだＣＤ化されない数少ないシングル・リミックス・バージョン。
    ※この記事の後に、コンピレーションでCD化。
    ●３枚目の「闇夜のヘヴィ・ロック」が全米ビルボード、アルバムチャート11位の大ヒットになった後、再リリースされたのが、この「ドリーム・オン」のシングル。これが大当たりしてシングルチャート６位の大ヒットとなった。
    ●この再発売シングルは、1973年の初回シングルとは違う「シングル・テイク（ＬＰとは違ってます）」という説明どおりのテイクに化けている。
    ●このシングルを初めて聴いた人は、ひっくり返るじゃろう。違いが多すぎる。
    ●ポップスの・ヒットは「３分の芸術」という言葉もあるくらいで、短期決戦じゃ。ＬＰで５分を超す曲でもシングルでは短く「テープ編集」したシングルは多かった。ドアーズの「ハートに火をつけて」、デレク＆ドミノス（エリック・クラプトン）の「愛しのレイラ」など、短く切り刻まれたヒット曲は、枚挙のいとまがないほどじゃ。
    ●しかし、このシングルは桁外れの編集をしておる。
    1.　スティーブンのボーカルに、エコーが強くかけてある。
    2.　リマスターして、楽器の音が原曲より全面に出ている。定位も違う。
    3.　サビの部分には、女性コーラスまでかぶさってくる。
    4.　歌詞の順番を変えてある（下の表を参照）。
    この「1/2」は珍しくないが、「3/4」までやるとは…。
    切り刻まれたために、ギターソロもほとんどない。
    ●実は、発売元のColumbiaには、1960年代からこういうリミックスの前科がある。サイモン＆ガーファンクルの傑作「サウンド・オブ・サイレンス」がそうじゃ。まあアーチスト性を語る前に、とにかく売れねば話にならんからのぉ。
    ●「サウンド・オブ・サイレンス」は、アルバム「水曜の朝、午前３時」で1964年に発売された時は、ギターだけ録ったアコースティックな、おとなしすぎる曲で不発。その後、ディレクターが勝手にエレ・キギター、エレキベース、ドラムスをオーバー・ダビングして再度シングルカットしたら大ヒットになったという伝説が残っている。





★キャッチ・コピー
1976年ハナッからブッ飛ばして、エアロスミス。これこそその名を天下に轟かした噂の大ヒットだ!!
はあ、そうですかとしか言いようのないコピーじゃの。
「ハナッからブッ飛ばして、エアロスミス」とは、七五調にしかたったんじゃろうが、字余りじゃわい。
上のジャケットで左下の部分に「シングル・テイク（ＬＰとは違っています）」と赤字で書いてある。
